International Women’s Day 2026

International Women’s Day, marked each year on 8 March, celebrates the achievements of women across every part of society while also highlighting the ongoing pursuit of gender equality.
The day has roots in early 20th-century movements where women organised for fair working conditions, voting rights and greater equality. Over time it has grown into a global moment of recognition and awareness.
The current theme encourages people to “Give to Gain,” recognising that when individuals and communities actively support women’s progress, society as a whole benefits.
For those working in counselling and mental health, it’s also a reminder of the importance of safe spaces where women can talk openly about their experiences, challenges and ambitions. Listening, understanding and supporting wellbeing are small but meaningful ways we can contribute to the wider spirit of the day.

International Women's Day is powered by the collective efforts of all
Collective action and shared ownership for driving gender parity is what makes International Women's Day impactful. Gloria Steinem, world-renowned feminist, journalist and activist reportedly once explained "The story of women's struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights." So make International Women's Day your day and do what you can to truly make a positive difference for women.
